Hippie is ALICE Program C, a platform-independent version of
the ALICE program written in C/C++. Program C is no longer
maintained, but is still an interesting application which
formed the basis of many subsequent ALICE programs. This
program incorporates the standard.aiml set, a pared-down
version of the ALICE AIML set, but instructions are included
for substituting the AIML set of your choice. A final, uncom-
piled version of Hippie containing the Anna.aiml set can be
found at the Hippie Project page.
Eliza is the original psychotherapist chatbot. This recent
version of the original chatbot is one of the best available.

Franky is a natural language processing bot from the
Netherlands. He learns from conversations, and determines
the rules of language based on his experience. Franky is
an entrant in the 2005 Chatterbot Challenge Contest. Read

AIB (Artificial Intelligence Being)is an NLP bot that starts
with an empty database. This version is "Old AIB," the
original program. For the latest version of AIB,

Although Alan J. Brown no longer maintains the project,
Leo continues to be one of the most popular desktop
chatbots. Leo is now available again for download.

Alim means "knowledgeable one." Alimbot tries to decide not only
what to say, but how to say it. This is a new ActiveX implementation

MegaHal is an award-winning chatbot by Jason Hutchens. This

Liza is an interesting bot which combines an Eliza
program with the NLP learning techniques of Daisy
and the command structure of Billy. To see the webpage

Although the project is no longer actively maintained,
Jacco Bikker's "WinAlice" continues to be one of the best
desktop Alicebot implementations available.

Proteus is a "fuzzy logic" bot which starts with an empty, database.
With good training, this can become an exceptional chatbot.

ProgramX is a chatbot from Chaos AI Technology which can run on
AIM, Yahoo, or MSN messengers. ProgramX asks to be instructed
when it encounters new input. It can chat in chatrooms, has mood,
forms relationships with users, and has many other interesting

The CKS Juggernaut offers a choice of NLP,
user-specified, or hard-coded CML learning modes.
This bot can be run from instant messenger or webpage
interface.It has many features and commands. Juggernaut 3.5
is the a creation of Chaos AI Technology
Leviathan 1.0 Beta is the first in the Leviathan series, the present
culmination of AI Chaos technology. Leviathan combines
all the technologies developed thus far at AI Chaos.
Like most of the bots on this page, Chloe is an NLP chatbot. She
starts with a small database of only a few phrases, and learns all
she knows from user input. Chloe is a quick study, and with a bit of
work this can be a very good chatbot.
Billy3.11 is the most widely-known version of Greg Leedberg's
popular Billy chatbot. Billy starts with a small database
of words and phrases, and then learns all he knows
directly from conversation with the user. For the current

Daisy is Greg Leedberg's "companion" bot to Billy. Daisy starts
with no pre-programmed language at all. She learns from observing
how conversation works, and generates her own original sentences.
Using the link provided in their downloads, Billy and Daisy
can be linked so they can chat together.
NIALL, the Non-Intelligent Acquired Language Learner, is
another chatbot which starts with an empty database, and
learns all it knows from either conversation or text-input.
Anna is an ALICE variant which is programmed to think she's human.
This version, which is being developed by The MythAlice Community
as a game infobot, displays pattern matching information in the user
interface, which is helpful for learning how AIML bots work.
